16 Jun – After just 19 days of release, local comedy "Young and Fabulous" managed to collect around SGD1.2 million at the box office. A celebratory luncheon was recently held at Ah Yat Abalone following the movie's million dollar box office success. "We're delighted that "Young and Fabulous" has achieved such wonderful results, and we hope that it'll keep going strong," said executive producer and director Joyce Lee in a statement. "One million at the box office was our target, and being able to hit it in just 19 days is a dream come true, as "Young and Fabulous" is our very first film and we're new players to production," Lee added, while also thanking the cast, crew and partners. Lee was present at the luncheon alongside scriptwriter Rebecca Leow and actors Henry Thia, Aloysius Pang, Joshua Tan, Jeffrey Xu and Jordan Ng. Also in attendance were members of the media and partners such as Media Development Authority Singapore and Golden Village Pictures. A symbolic ice sculpture breaking ceremony was held during the luncheon, with the "Young and Fabulous" team smashing a '1,200,000' ice sculpture, meant to signify more record-breaking box office numbers to come. Despite facing Hollywood blockbusters at the box office, the movie was still able to make a good collection due to its humour and mass appeal. Audiences also gave positive feedback as the movie highlights issues that are experienced by teenagers and adults in present society. "Young and Fabulous" is currently showing in local cinemas. It is also slated for release in Indonesia on 20 July and Malaysia on 1 September 2016. (Photo source: Encore Films)
