"Avatar 2" utilises glasses-free 3D technology

Fans will get to enjoy the beauty of "Avatar 2" without using any special 3D glasses.

28 Jun – James Cameron is well-known as a revolutionary filmmaker, when he introduced the world to his "Avatar" movie in 2009, he also introduced new motion capture filming techniques that ultimately captivated audiences the world over.

Now, he's back with another captivating new technology and fans of 3D movies will probably find this one more fascinating than Pandora.

There had long been talks of the director thinking of making his "Avatar" sequels in 3D, but without requiring any 3D glasses to view the movies. Now his dream of glasses-free 3D is coming to fruition, as Inquisitr reports that fans will get to catch "Avatar 2" in 3D but without needing "the heavy 3D gears".

All four of the upcoming "Avatar" sequels are expected to fully utilise the new glasses-free 3D technology.

The dream is made possible by Cameron's cooperation with Christie Digital, who will be providing the brand new RGB laser projection systems that will enable 3D films to be watched without 3D glasses.

His production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has extended its collaboration with the manufacturer of various digital cinema devices for five more years, in order for both teams to be able to continue working together in developing the technology.

It is said that the new RGB laser projection systems will provide bright images at a high frame rate, resulting in crystal clear, sharp images that will eliminate the need for 3D glasses.

"Avatar 2" is slated for release in North America on 18 December 2020. The third, fourth and fifth movies are scheduled to follow on 17 December 2021, 20 December 2024 and 19 December 2025, respectively.
