13 Mar – Director James Cameron is making fans go a little blue in the face waiting for the upcoming sequels to his 2009 "Avatar". "Avatar 2", the first of the four sequels, was slated for release in December 2018 – after being delayed from its original December 2017 release. But now, here's what the director recently told Toronto Star: "Well, 2018 is not happening. We haven't announced a firm release date." The director added that people have to understand that "this is a cadence of releases. So we're not making "Avatar 2". We're making "Avatar 2", 3, 4 and 5. It's an epic undertaking." While Cameron did not mention when is the exact release date that will start his wheel of "Avatar" sequels churning, he did say that he will be spending the next eight years working on the movies. Cameron said this was "not an unreasonable time frame" as the original "Avatar", released in December 2009, took four-and-a-half years to make. Previously, after the 2018 date was announced for "Avatar 2", the subsequent sequels were scheduled to follow in December 2020, December 2022, and December 2023. However, since the director has confirmed 2018 is a no-go, it's likely that the release dates for the rest of the movies in the franchise will be delayed too. Making four sequels back-to-back, which will only start releasing about a decade after the original movie's release, may seem an impossible task but this is James Cameron after all. If anyone can build a franchise in one go, it would be the Oscar-winning director whose movies, "Titanic" and "Avatar", each became the highest-grossing film of all time, with the latter beating in 2009 the former's long-standing record since 1997.
