22 Aug – Lionsgate and Millennium's "Hellboy" reboot seems to be coming along well with the latest addition of "Deadpool" actor, Ed Skrein, to its growing cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Skrein will play Major Ben Daimio, a supernaturally-powered agent working for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. In the comics, Daimio is able to shapeshift into a jaguar after coming across a jaguar god-worshipping cult during a rescue mission in the Bolivian Jungle. After losing to the cult's deity, he awoke from a three-day death to find that he is now able to turn into one under certain circumstances.
The 2015's "The Transporter Refueled" lead also shares some history with director Marshall, as Skrein was the original actor to portray Daario Naharis on HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones", where he was then replaced by Michael Huisman in the fourth season. Previously, Harbour has confirmed that the reboot will not focus on Hellboy's origins, but will instead have an "Indiana Jones" vibe of storytelling. "There is something of [his origin], but it's not really an origin story movie. We kind of pick up the movie like we're running and gunning. We do have a little bit of stuff where we show stuff, but it really is a story and you just drop in with this guy," he said on the recent "Happy, Sad, Confused" podcast. The project is heading toward a September start and will shoot in the United Kingdom and Bulgaria. Skrein will be seen next in Robert Rodriguez's "Alita: Battle Angel", set to be released next year.
