Hugh Jackman on Laura-centric "Logan" spinoff

Fans were introduced to Laura in this year's "Logan".

25 Oct – For the past few years, many actors such as Jackie Chan and Liam Neeson have reportedly announced their retirement from their typically-cast action roles. But we all know how that turns out with both starring in action-packed movies this year including "The Foreigner" and "Blade Runner 2049".

Thus, when Hugh Jackman is said to hang his Wolverine claws after "Logan", some fans might still have hopes that he will retract his retirement, even more so now with the movie being Wolverine's most financially successful film of all and words going around about a possible Laura spinoff.

That dream, however, has sadly been shut down for good, as Jackman told The Hollywood Reporter that after 17 years and nine movies, he is now at peace to exit the role.

The Aussie actor also added that he would not be of any involvement in the possible Laura spinoff, other than just as another passionate viewer.

"No, I won't be a producer on a Laura sequel," he replied when asked of the possibility of him staying on as one. "But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it though. She is just phenomenal."

Hopefully plans for the Laura spinoff will go smoothly.

James Mangold, writer and director of "Logan", also teases the possibility of a Laura spinoff, citing the success of "Wonder Woman" for opening doors for more female-centric superhero movies.

"Patty's success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there's less to fear with a female protagonist.

"The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up fiving me more space turning around and going, 'Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That's incredible. And what are we going to do with her?' And that's where we are with that [Laura script] right now, dreaming," Mangold said.

With increasing "X-Men" movies and spinoffs reaching for different genres such as "Deadpool" with its action comedy and the upcoming "New Mutants" taking on horror, producer Hutch Parker also gives his two-cents on how the Laura spinoff could break out from "Logan's" noir-western genre.

"It may not be in the same exact tonality or with the same genre orientations as "Logan", but I think part of what has been opened up in this universe to all of us now is, drawing on different genre traditions, there are new pathways to be opened for new characters that populate this universe." Parker said.

While the Laura spinoff is still in the works, fans can definitely look forward to "The New Mutants" and "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" in 2018.
