Royston Tan-produced "667" to premiere in Busan

"Nocturne" by director Liao JieKai is one of the five shorts in "667".

12 Sep – Making its international premiere at the Busan International Film Festival next month is Singapore's very own anthology film "667".

With a title referring to the average size of a Singaporean 3-room HDB flat (667 square feet), the Royston Tan-produced omnibus features five short stories on the search for one's cultural roots and how one makes Singapore home, according to The Straits Times.

Each segments are helmed by rising Singaporean directors – Kristen Tan ("Pop Aye"), He Shuming ("And The Wind Falls"), Liao Jiekai ("Red Dragonflies"), Eve Tang ("The Songs We Sang"), as well as Jun Chong who will be making his debut with it.

The anthology is also made up entirely of various Chinese dialects: Tan's "Wu Song Sha Shao" is in Teochew, He's "Letters from the Motherland" is in Hainanese, Liao's "Nocturne" is in Hokkien, Tang's "The Veiled Willow" is in Cantonese, while Jun Chong's "Ke" is in Hakka.

Previously screened at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre last May, additional screenings will now be held ahead of the film's international premiere.

"667" will be screened again this 23 and 24 September before heading to the 2017 Busan International Film Festival, which will take place from 12 to 21 October.
