"Girl in the Spider's Web" catches new male lead


There's a new male lead for the sequel to "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

6 Dec – There's a newly-added name ensnared in the main cast of "The Girl in the Spider's Web", belonging to a certain Swedish actor that goes by Sverrir Gudnason.

Gudnason may not be a familiar name to moviegoers but that will soon change, having landed the leading man role in the upcoming Hollywood sequel to 2011's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", Variety reports.

The 39-year-old is taking over the role of Swedish investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist, previously played by Daniel Craig in the English-language reboot.


To be directed by Fede Alvarez of "Don't Breathe" fame, "Spider's Web" will see Gudnason star opposite Claire Foy who will play lead character Lisbeth Salander, Sylvia Hoeks who will portray her twin sister, and Claes Bang who will take on the villain character.

Production is set to begin in January 2018, with the movie slated for a 19 October North American release the same year.

Gudnason has two decades of acting experience, even receiving a Best Actor accolade for his role in the Swedish/Danish film "Original" at the 2009 Shanghai International Film Festival.

His biggest silver screen work to date is portraying Swedish former world no. 1 tennis player Björn Borg, alongside Shia LaBeouf as Borg's rival – the American former world no. 1 professional tennis player, John McEnroe – in biographical sports movie, "Borg/McEnroe".
