Will Smith delays "Suicide Squad 2" production


Smith will have to finish off his two other commitments ("Gemini Man" and " Aladdin")
before jumping back to "Suicide Squad 2".

31 Aug – Despite Warner Bros.' earlier report of fast-tracking "Suicide Squad 2", it seems that the busy schedule of one of its squad members might just push filming date back.

According to a post on Variety journalist Justin Kroll's Twitter account, the sequel will not begin production until September 2018 due to Will Smith's attachment to Disney's live-action "Aladdin" and Ang Lee's "Gemini Man".


It has been expected earlier that shooting would not take place until 2018, with the studios still on the lookout for a director after its intended helmer, Jaume Collet-Serra, decides to take on Disney's "Jungle Cruise" instead.

While a September start is a much further date than anticipated, the studios might have found their silver lining as they now will have ample time to fully develop the sequel and search for the perfect helmer to take over the world that David Ayer has established.

DC Films and Warner Bros. have previously revealed the development of upcoming projects ranging from Harley Quinn's female-centric spin-off "Gotham City Sirens", a Joker origins movie, as well as a Joker/Harley Quinn film starring both Jared Leto and Margot Robbie.

As of now, the whole production schedule for the future of the DC Extended Universe seems to still be up in the air, with only David Sandberg's "Shazam!" starting production today.
