27 Sep – Two more actresses have been confirmed to flock together with Margot Robbie in the highly-anticipated DC movie "Birds of Prey". Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("10 Cloverfield Lane") and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (TV's "Underground") have landed the roles as Huntress and Black Canary, respectively, Deadline is reporting. Winstead's Huntress, also known as Helena Bertinelli, has several versions in the DC comics but in the movie, she is a former mafia princess who turns into a vigilante after seeing her family killed at a young age. Smollett-Bell's Black Canary, who also goes by Dinah Lance, is a good-natured streetfighter known for her shrieking cry. Both will be joining the Birds of Prey team that will be going up against a villain, which is still unnamed, in a Gotham that is not protected by Batman. The team includes Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain – the latter two roles have yet to be filled.
Robbie will be back as Harley Quinn, seeing that he movie is after all a spinoff based on her character in 2016's "Suicide Squad". Produced by Robbie herself and directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Christina Hodson, the Harley Quinn-focused spinoff will not shy away from dark and gritty moments as it has been confirmed by Robbie itself that it will have an R-rating. The movie is set to begin filming in January 2019 in Los Angeles. This is just one of the DC movies Robbie will be reprising the role for, she is also expected to return in another Harley Quinn spinoff, a Joker-Harley Quinn focused spinoff and a "Suicide Squad" sequel. "Birds of Prey" is slated to take flight in North American theatres on 7 February 2020, just a few months after the Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker spinoff hits cinemas.
