Margot Robbie might replace Anne Hathaway in this doll movie

Margot Robbie, seen here in her "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" role,
does have the perfect look to pull off portraying a Barbie doll.

8 Oct – Margot Robbie is about to get all dolled up for her next big screen role, as she is now in talks to star in Mattel's Barbie movie.

The Australian actress will also be producing the movie under her LuckyChap banner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Once the deal is sealed, this means Robbie will be replacing Anne Hathaway in the lead role. The latter was previously attached to star back when Sony Pictures had the rights to the movie based on the popular doll.

After the rights reverted back to Mattel, it found its Barbie movie a new studio, hence why now Warner Bros. is the one discussing the project with Robbie's production company LuckyChap Entertainment.

There are talks of "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins circling the project but these have yet to be confirmed.

The live-action Barbie movie was first announced in 2014. Two years later, Amy Schumer was set to star in it but later dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. In 2017, Hathaway was reported to play the lead instead.

Sony previously pushed the release date from 8 August 2018 to 8 May 2020. Now that the project's changed studio, it remains to be seen which date Warner Bros. will pick to open Robbie's Barbie movie in cinemas.
