8 Oct – Margot Robbie is about to get all dolled up for her next big screen role, as she is now in talks to star in Mattel's Barbie movie. The Australian actress will also be producing the movie under her LuckyChap banner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Once the deal is sealed, this means Robbie will be replacing Anne Hathaway in the lead role. The latter was previously attached to star back when Sony Pictures had the rights to the movie based on the popular doll.
The live-action Barbie movie was first announced in 2014. Two years later, Amy Schumer was set to star in it but later dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. In 2017, Hathaway was reported to play the lead instead. Sony previously pushed the release date from 8 August 2018 to 8 May 2020. Now that the project's changed studio, it remains to be seen which date Warner Bros. will pick to open Robbie's Barbie movie in cinemas.
