Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow movie is really happening?

Black Widow is one step closer to getting her own movie.

11 Jan – There have always been talks of super spy Black Widow getting her own standalone movie, and these talks might be coming to fruition with the latest update circulating online.

There is now a scriptwriter attached to the project, which comes in the form of Jac Schaeffer ("Nasty Women", "The Shower"), Variety reports.

While the movie hasn't exactly been given the green light by Marvel, having a scriptwriter onboard has at least set the ball rolling for the project.

Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, and Scarlett Johansson, who has portrayed Black Widow in several Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies released so far, have discussed what to expect from a "Black Widow" writer.

Feige reportedly met with several writers before choosing Schaeffer.

Black Widow follows in the footsteps of her fellow Avengers Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor, who all have their own standalone series in MCU, with the Chris Hemsworth-led "Thor: Ragnarok" being the latest.

Johansson's MCU contract, which was purported to be reaching the end after "Avengers: Infinity War" and one more undisclosed movie, might be extended if the Black Widow project really takes off and bites into success.

The 33-year-old actress debuted as the Marvel character in 2010's "Iron Man 2". She has since gone on to reprise the role in two "Avengers" movies, and the second and third "Captain America" movies. She has also appeared in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Thor: Ragnarok", and will be seen next in "Avengers: Infinity War".
