Will Armie Hammer finally get to play Batman?

Armie Hammer was almost Batman on the big screen more than a decade ago.

20 Feb - Whenever a potential Batman is mentioned, Armie Hammer always seems to be one of the frontrunners.

Yet again, the actor's name was thrown into the ring, this time as replacement for Ben Affleck, who is no longer starring as the titular superhero of "The Batman".

The latest rumour started spreading when Revenge of the Fans reported that the 32-year-old was in final talks to play the superhero in the upcoming DC movie.

Alas, as intriguing it is to see Hammer nail the role, Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez and The Hollywood Reporter journalist Borys Kit have both shot down the rumour in separate tweets.

Gonzalez responded first by stating that he checked with the studio and found the rumour to be untrue. He also stated that due to Hammer's age, he might not be the perfect candidate to play what is envisioned to be a much younger Bruce.

Kit, meanwhile, posted: "...there haven't even been any actor meetings for THE BATMAN. (But that doesn't mean Reeves and WB don't have ideas of who they would like)".

Hammer would've had his first shot as Batman when he was cast for it in 2007 for George Miller's "Justice League: Mortal". Unfortunately, despite the costumes prepared and sets built in Australia, the movie never materialised due to the Writers Guild of America strike.

However, with his sturdy build and chiseled looks, it's no wonder he kept being eyed for a couple more superhero roles since then. Other superhero movies he has been considered for before this were "Green Lantern" and "Shazam!"

Well, whether he gets the cowl or not, Hammer is still pretty in demand in Hollywood. He can currently be seen starring opposite Felicity Jones in "On the Basis of Sex" (for some territories this movie was released last year), will be seen next in this year's psychological horror film "Wounds" and is busy shooting thriller film "Dreamland".

As for who will actually play Batman, director Matt Reeves still has plenty of time to look for the perfect man as "The Batman" is only scheduled for release in North American cinemas on 25 June 2021.
