"Doctor Who" star Matt Smith in talks for major Marvel role

is joining a Sony's Marvel movie next.

26 Jan – English actor Matt Smith is really beefing up his resume in Hollywood as he is about to add another blockbuster movie role to his name.

The actor is now in final discussion to join Jared Leto as part of the cast of "Morbius", according to Variety.

While it is not known yet what character he will be playing in the "Spider-Man" spinoff, which is set to be part of Sony's Marvel Universe, it is known that he will playing a major role.


Currently, the only confirmed cast member is Leto, who will be starring as the titular living vampire.

Daniel Espinosa will be directing the movie from a script by co-creators of Netflix's "Lost in Space", Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

"Morbius" is expected to open in cinemas in July 2020.

Before that, Smith will first be seen on the big screen this year in the upcoming movie of yet another Hollywood franchise, namely "Star Wars: Episode IX".
