James Gunn might include this "Batman fan" in "The Suicide Squad"

Batman doesn't seem amused since the character that James Gunn teased fans with is well-known as a nuisance to him.

9 Aug – DC's 2016 attempt of bringing together the Suicide Squad on the big screen was deemed too dark and serious by fans, maybe that's why James Gunn seems to be opting for a lighter and more humorous approach to his 2021 sequel.

When a fan asked the director on Instagram which characters he is bringing into "The Suicide Squad", he responded with, "I love Bat-Mite".

For those unfamiliar with this character, Bat-Mite is essentially a Batman superfan – one that comes from the Fifth Dimension and possesses magical powers. He idolises the caped superhero so much that he even dons his own Batsuit and makes various visits to Batman, much to the superhero's annoyance.

While he is similar to fellow Fifth Dimension magical supervillain Mister Mxyzptlk, the latter doesn't adore his target – Superman – at all, the way he does with Batman.

That's Bat-Mite hanging around as Batman tries to pummel Joker to the ground.

Since the movie is only set to be released on 6 August 2 years from now, the cast has yet to be finalised. As Cosmic Book News listed, the returning cast may include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Idris Elba and John Cena's respective roles are still unknown, while David Dastmalchian will reportedly play Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior will play Ratcatcher and Rey Hernandez will play Teniente.

"The Suicide Squad" is set to be the 11th instalment of the DCEU, which started with 2013's "Man of Steel". It is among the three DCEU titles currently slated for 2021, between "The Batman" and "The Flash".
