Dwayne Johnson says MTV Generation Award "means a lot"

Of course The Rock's all smiles, he's nabbed another award!

14 Jun – This one means a lot," says Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson of his new award, which he will be receiving at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

"Box office revenues are cool, but the thing that really matters is the blessing to positively influence and impact generations along the way," the 47-year-old posted on his Instagram.

He is, of course, talking about none other than his MTV Generation Award.

It was revealed by MTV that the pro wrestler-turned-actor will be this year's recipient of the accolade, which is awarded to beloved actors who are now household names thanks to their diverse contributions to both film and television.

Actors who've previously won include Chris Pratt, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, and the "Fast & Furious" franchise – which, in 2017, became the first and only franchise so far to have received the award.

The Rock has definitely come a long way since his big screen debut as The Scorpion King in 2001's "The Mummy Returns".

Since then he's landed more major roles in TV and movies, whether live-action or animated, and is now starring in at least two to four movies per year, with movie revenues exceeding USD10 billion worldwide. He's also involved in producing movies and even lent his voice to video games.

See The Rock receive his golden popcorn at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards, to be held on 17 June at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, hosted by "Shazam!" star Zachary Levi.
