16 Jun – With Hollywood and the global film industry hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the ABC Television Network have decided to delay the 93rd Academy Awards.

Originally set to be held in Los Angeles on 28 February 2021, next year's Oscars will now be held on 25 April 2021.

The new date was announced on The Academy's social media, along with other key dates for the 93rd Oscars.

It was also announced that the eligibility period for Academy Awards consideration, which was originally from the first day of this year until 31 December 2020, will be extended to the end of February 2021. As for the submission for general entry categories, including Best Picture, Original Score and Original Song, the deadline is now 15 January 2021.

Shortlist announcement will be made on 9 February 2021 and nominations announcement will be made on 15 March 2021.

Meanwhile, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures that was set to open to the public this 14 December, has postponed its opening to 30 April 2021.

"We find ourselves in uncharted territory this year and will continue to work with our partners at the Academy to ensure next year's show is a safe and celebratory event that also captures the excitement of the opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures," said Karey Burke, president, ABC Entertainment, in a statement posted on The Oscars' official website.

Next year's Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
