13 May – Last year, it was announced that Roland Emmerich will be directing another movie that is set to be distributed by Lionsgate, this time in the form of a disaster thriller, and now a star is finally attached to lead it.

Josh Gad, probably best known to kids as the voice of Olaf, has closed a deal to star in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Called "Moonfall", penned by Emmerich himself along with his "2012" co-writers Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, it tells of a ragtag team that is trying to land on the lunar surface and save humanity after the moon is knocked from its orbit and is sent on a collision course with Earth.

Gad, the first of the ensemble cast to be revealed, will be playing an odd and unkempt genius named KC Houseman, whose prediction of the moon having fallen out of its orbit proves to be correct and now makes him one of the most important people in the high risk mission.

Production on the USD150 million sci-fi disaster movie is expected to begin this fall.

Emmerich took a little break after directing 2016's "Independence Day: Resurgence" and returned last year with his passion project, "Midway", which was distributed by Lionsgate and starred the likes of Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Nick Jonas, Woody Harrelson and Mandy Moore.

Gad, meanwhile, was last heard voicing Olaf in "Frozen 2" and is set to be seen soon in "Artemis Fowl", which will be premiering on Disney+ this June after its early April theatrical release was cancelled due to the closure of cinemas caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The actor has also launched a YouTube series called "Reunited Apart", as part of his effort to raise funds for the global health and humanitarian relief organisation, Project HOPE. The recently released second episode garnered much attention as it virtually reunited the cast and creators of "Back to the Future".
