8 Jul – Jude Law is trading one of his hands for a hook, onscreen that is. If he agrees to board this live-action project, his next villainous role will be as Peter Pan's nemesis, Captain Hook. Variety broke the news that the 47-year-old is in discussion with Disney to star in the studio's live-action adaptation of its 1953 animated classic, which in turn was based on J.M. Barrie's play and novel "Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up".
Other cast members have yet to be announced. Margot Robbie was eyed for Tinkerbell earlier this year but there's been no recent update on the casting. It was last reported in May that the "Birds of Prey" star is being pitted against "Black Widow's" Scarlett Johansson for the pixie role. The live-action project was first announced in 2016, with "Pete's Dragon" David Lowery attached to helm from a script he co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks. In January this year, the movie was retitled to "Peter Pan and Wendy", as opposed to having just Peter's name in it like the animated film did. The young titular leads were announced in March and principal photography was set to begin last April in Canada and the UK, but it had to be halted due to the pandemic. While it was announced in 2018 that the project was to be released exclusively on streaming platform Disney+, now it might be opening in cinemas instead, though a release date has not been confirmed.
