24 Apr – After scaring up quite a profit at the global box office last year, "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" is returning to the big screen with a sequel.

Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, who produced the 2019 horror movie, is also back for the follow-up that's currently referred to as "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, del Toro penned the sequel's screen story, which returning writers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman will base their screenplay on.

André Øvredal will once again take his place in the director's seat, though no word so far if any of the cast members will be reprising their roles.

There is no release date set yet for the second movie. With the uncertainty surrounding the future of current movies that have to be postponed due to worldwide cinema closures, it will most likely only get a date once film studios can fully confirm their release schedules.

Plot details are also still kept under wrap at the moment but considering how the first movie ended, the sequel will most likely pick up the story from there.

Last year's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" met generally positive reviews following its release. It made USD105.8 million worldwide on a budget of roughly USD28 million. Adapted from Alvin Schwartz's book series of the same name, the movie is set during Halloween 1968 in a small town, where Stella and her friends discover a notebook filled with sinister stories.
