Tom Cruise is making a movie with NASA

6 May – When you're Tom Cruise, no mission is impossible for you, even if it means pulling off stunts literally out of this world.

The Hollywood star is teaming up with Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) to create a feature film with NASA.

Deadline broke the news yesterday and it was confirmed just hours ago by NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine on his Twitter.


"NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA's ambitious plans a reality," he tweeted.

Musk previously made no comment on his involvement in the project but he seemingly finally confirmed it when he replied "Should be a lot of fun!" to Bridenstine's post.

Cruise has yet to release his own statement at the time of writing but it is speculated that he would be starring in the movie, since doing stunts in zero gravity is definitely an adrenaline rush that the action-loving actor wouldn't pass on.

Cruise is set to be seen on the big screen next in "Mission: Impossible 7", which he had been in the midst of filming in Italy when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the project, along with other film and TV productions, to be temporarily shut down.

The Christopher McQuarrie-helmed seventh instalment is still set for release next year, but the date has been moved from 23 July 2021 to 19 November 2021 in North American cinemas.
