27 Apr – Now that both Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have recovered from COVID-19 after testing positive for it last month, they are lending a hand to medical professionals' effort to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus.

They are doing so by volunteering to donate their blood and plasma for coronavirus research, according to Variety.

It was revealed by Hanks himself on NPR's podcast "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!" last week, where he even joked that he already has a name for the vaccine.

"A lot of the questions [are] what do we do now? Is there something we can do? And, in fact, we just found out that we do carry the antibodies," he said.

"We have not only been approached, we have said, 'Do you want our blood? Can we give plasma?' "In fact, we will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the 'Hank-ccine'."

So if the vaccine is a success, COVID-19 patients will have Hanks and Wilson's "Hank-ccine" to thank for saving their lives.

The Hollywood husband and wife were the first high profile celebrities to share that they tested positive for COVID-19 in early March. Both were in Australia at the time for the filming of Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic. They returned to the US in late March after a period of self-isolation.
