12 May – Amid his hectic schedule, Amitabh Bachchan has not forgotten to do his part in fighting COVID-19, as he recently revealed all the efforts he is currently doing for his fellow countrymen.

The Bollywood star recently shared on his official blog that the 400-bed care centre at RakabGanj Gurudwara, in Delhi that he has contributed to has recently been inaugurated, while 20 ventilators that he has ordered overseas have started to arrive.


"The first lot of 10 has landed in Mumbai and are at Customs awaiting clearance. The procurer Agency will deliver them by Wednesday and at least 4 Municipal Hospitals that I had earmarked and the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Committee the BMC, shall be given at least 4 of the 6 they desired," he wrote, adding that the balance will be arriving by the 25th and will be distributed to the other Hospital locations and care centres.

He also revealed that 50 Oxygen Concentrators will be sent to Delhi, while another 150 of them will be arriving soon; and a care centre in Juhu will be ready to accept patients soon.

In addition, Amitabh has also commissioned an orphanage to look after two children who have lost their parents to COVID-19, and that 1000 packets of dry food shall be going to the poor. These, however, is just half of what the actor has done since the beginning of the pandemic.

"We fight. We fight to win," he added, revealing that his personal contributions shall be about 15 crore rupees (approx. USD 2 million).

It is noted that Amitabh's post about his contributions came amid allegations made by netizens that Indian celebrities have not done enough to help their countrymen who are struggling with COVID-19.


The Bachchan family was not spared from the coronavirus

It is noted that Amitabh and his son, fellow actor Abhishek, were hospitalised after being tested positive for the coronavirus in July last year. Abhishek's wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, along with their daughter Aaradhya, were later tested positive and underwent home isolation as they were asymptomatic.
