13 Jul - Releasing "Black Widow" on two different platforms seemed to have been a successful gamble by Disney, which announced that the movie has made around USD 140 million at the box office. The studio had decided to release the movie in both the theatres as well as on Disney+ Premier Access, and has recently revealed that it has made over USD 60 million via Disney+ Premier Access alone during its opening weekend, and another USD 80 million at the box office.
"Once again, Marvel has delivered an exceptional film to the delight of fans worldwide with Black Widow achieving numerous milestones in the current marketplace," said Kareem Daniel, Chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution. "Black Widow's strong performance this weekend affirms our flexible distribution strategy of making franchise films available in theatres for a true cinematic experience and, as COVID concerns continue globally, providing choice to consumers who prefer to watch at home on Disney+." "Black Widow" is the third Disney property that has been released on Disney+ Premier Access following the live-action adaptation of "Mulan" and the animated feature, "Raya and the Last Dragon".
