25 Oct – After the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins that mirrored the tragedy of Brandon Lee, the latter's family recently called for a ban on using actual weapons on film sets.

Shannon Lee, who spoke about the recent accidental fatal shooting, stated that there is no excuse for such a thing to happen again following her brother's death more than 20 years ago.

"There are rules that are supposed to be followed. I am certainly not pointing fingers at anyone because that would be the wrong thing to do. But there is no reason for something like this to happen," she said.

Shannon also expressed her sympathy for actor Alec Baldwin, who was the one who accidentally fired the prop gun on Hutchins and director Joe Souza, as well as for the cinematographer's family for their loss. Souza was wounded and has since been released from the hospital.

"I feel for the work he is going to have to do to process this and try to find some measure of peace around it. And even more so for the family of Halyna Hutchins. It's having your whole world flip upside down. There should be compassion for all the pain everyone is going through."

Agreeing that real guns need to be banned from film sets, Shannon stated that such a prop is not needed in the era of special effects and great technology.

"It is not necessary, and I would love to see some changes made industry-wide. My brother's fiancée and I have been talking about it. I think we wish we had thought to do more 28 years ago, and we would love to do that now," she said. "There were rules in place on The Crow. Unfortunately, there was negligence of the rules. I don't want to speak to the incident on Rust, but in Brandon's accident, there were many rules that were not followed and corners that were cut, which lead to the tragedy on that set. It did not have to happen."

It is noted that Brandon Lee, son of martial arts actor Bruce Lee, passed away in 1993 on the set of his series, "The Crow", following an accident with a prop gun.
