7 Feb – Awkwafina recently decided to quit Twitter temporarily following the backlash over her use of African American Vernacular English (AAVE).
The internet rapper-turned-actress, who has been criticised for her use of Blaccent since she became popular through "Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens" and later "Crazy Rich Asians" and "Ocean's 8", recently had the criticisms coming her way yet again after Vice writer Bettina Makalinal called her show "borrowing from Black culture" problematic.
Following another backlash to her statement, the "Shang-Chi" star took to Twitter and announced that she will be leaving the said social media platform as advised by her therapist.
"To my fans, thank you for continuing to love and support someone who wishes they could be a better person for you. I apologise if I ever fell short in anything I did. You're in my heart always."
She then added, "To Clarify: I am retiring from the ingrown toenail that is Twitter. Not retiring from anything else, even if I wanted to, and I didn't drunkenly hit someone with a shoehorn and now escaping as a fugitive. Also am avail on all other socials that don't tell you to kill yourself!"
