27 Oct – James Cameron recently joined a slew of elite filmmakers in expressing their resentment towards the flood of superhero films in recent times.

The filmmaker, whose upcoming movie, "Avatar: The Way of Water" is to be released soon, shared his thoughts about the trend in an interview with the NYT, saying that these superhero characters seemed to act like they're in college.

"They have relationships, but they really don't. They never hang up their spurs because of their kids. The things that really ground us and give us power, love, and a purpose? Those characters don't experience it, and I think that's not the way to make movies," he added.

Prior to Cameron, big name directors like Ridley Scott, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese expressed their distaste for the likes of Marvel and DC universe, with the latter calling the films "not cinema".

"Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being," he said.

"Avatar: The Way of Water", which sees the return of Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana as Jake Sully and Neytiri, will finally be released on 16 December.
