13 June – After confirming the fifth instalment of the "Ghostbuster" franchise, it was revealed that Sony Pictures is now co-producing a new Ghostbusters animated series alongside Netflix.
The news was announced at the Netflix Geeked Week presentation, with the studio saying that "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" director Jason Reitman and writer-producer Gil Kenan will serve as executive producers.
Jennifer Kluska and Chris Prynoski are also attached to helm the new movie written by Brenda Hsueh for Sony Animation.
Prior to the upcoming Netflix animation, "Ghostbusters" previously had an animated television series and spinoff of the 1984 movie, "The Real Ghostbusters", which ran from 1986 to 1991, and another one, "Extreme Ghostbusters", released in 1997 about a team of younger Ghostbusters led by Egon Spengler.
Not much details have been released about the animated feature or the fifth movie, the latter which was announced back in May.
The upcoming series will be another one of Netflix's animated content that include fan favourites like "The Cuphead Show!", "The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib", and "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe".
