29 Nov – Helena Bonham Carter is not one to care about the wrath of the woke crowd, as she defends liberal outcasts Johnny Depp and JK Rowling in a recent interview. The actress, who played Bellatrix Lestrange in the adaptation of Rowling's popular fantasy series, "Harry Potter", slammed the notion of people's personal lives impacting their careers.
"She's not meaning it aggressively, she's just saying something out of her own experience," she added. When mentioned that "Harry Potter" actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have spoken out against Rowling regarding her ideas about transgender people, Bonham Carter said, "Personally I feel they should let her have her opinions, but I think they're very aware of protecting their own fan base and their generation." As for Depp, who was previously ignored by Hollywood over abuse allegations made by ex-wife Amber Heard, Bonham Carter, who has worked with the actor in movies like "Dark Shadows" and "Sweeney Todd", stated that he is now completely vindicated after winning his defamation suit against the actress. "I think he's fine now. Totally fine." As to the notion that Depp winning is a fall for the #MeToo movement, the actress responded, "My view is that she got on that pendulum. That's the problem with these things - that people will jump on the bandwagon because it's the trend and to be the poster girl for it."
