9 Nov - Always a visionary, filmmaker James Cameron recently revealed that he has a Plan B just in case "Avatar: The Way of Water" doesn't do well at the box office. The director, whose upcoming sequel to the 2009 hit film will be released this December, shared that everything else could be truncated if the movie performs poorly at the box office.
Cameron acknowledged the fact that the world is different now than when he wrote the second movie. "It's the one-two punch - the pandemic and streaming. Or, conversely, maybe we'll remind people what going to the theatre is all about. This film definitely does that. The question is: how many people give a s*** now?" It was earlier this year that Cameron said that he might not direct the fifth movie, which is already in planning. "I think eventually over time – I don't know if that's after three or after four – I'll want to pass the baton to a director that I trust to take over, so I can go do some other stuff that I'm also interested in. Or maybe not. I don't know."
"Avatar: The Way of Water" will be released on 15 December 2022.
