24 Jan - The sequel to sci-fi hit, "The Meg" is set to begin filming soon.

The news was released by KFTV, stating that the Jason Statham film, titled, "Meg 2: The Trench", will be filming in the UK, particularly at the Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, unlike the first movie, which was filmed in Auckland, New Zealand.

That is not the only change that will happen with production, as Jon Turteltaub, who helmed the first film, will also be replaced by Ben Wheatley, who directed last year's "In the Earth" and the Netflix movie, "Rebecca".

Statham, who will be reprising his role as rescue diver Jonas Taylor, will be having more creative control this time around, according to the report.

The original movie, based on the Steve Alten sci-fi thriller of the same name, tells the story of Jonas Taylor, a deep-sea diver who is hired to save members of an underwater research facility that are under the threat of a 75-foot prehistoric shark called Megalodon.

Despite mixed reviews, the movie made USD 530 million at the global box office when it was released in 2018.
