24 May – Michelle Yeoh was recently honoured with the SeeHer Award at the Gold House Gold Gala event celebrating AAPI excellence and heritage.

The Malaysian actress, who accepted the award from directors Jon M. Chu and Destin Daniel Cretton, and producer Jonathan Wang, expressed the importance of women and representation in her speech.

"We should never give up. We should always push. We should always step up and step forward to make sure the changes are there. Don't wait for Hollywood to change this course. We have to change the course. We have to. We have brilliant storytellers. And when we tell a story, like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Hollywood said so."

She continued, "I work to ensure that the women I play are not just relegated to auntie stereotypes or the traditional grandmothers, and that includes Evelyn Wang."

"We all have superpowers: kindness, compassion, empathy, strength and ambition. Women must have their own agency over their lives, careers and dreams."

It is noted that Michelle is the first recipient of the SeeHer award, honoured for defying gender stereotypes throughout her career.

The couple already have a daughter named Lyla Maria
