17 Jan – Amid rumours about a sequel to 2011's Hugh Jackman-starrer "Real Steel", it was revealed that the film will now become a Disney+ series. The news was confirmed by director Shawn Levy himself on Twitter, who wrote, "This is happening because all of you amazing people who never forgot this movie, and never let me forget the love." Reportedly, Disney had wanted to do the series months ago, but decided to postpone the plan to wait for everybody involved to ink a deal before making it official.
The 2011 movie, based on Richard Matheson's short story "Steel", stars Hugh Jackman as a washed-up boxer who finds a new calling by training a fighting robot to fight in the World Robot Boxing championship after his estranged son discovers an obsolete sparring robot during a scavenging hunt. It co-stars then-child actor Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, and pre-Falcon Anthony Mackie. On the other hand, Levy, who helmed the original film, will be producing the series alongside Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, Susan Montford and Don Murphy.
