25 Aug – While most are anxiously awaiting the tenth instalment of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, stylised as "Fast X", there is one group of people who are not keen about having the Dom Toretto family returning.

They are the residents of Los Angeles' Angelino Heights, the same location where the fictional Dom Toretto's family resides and works - who threatened to protest if the production returns to the neighbourhood to shoot the movie.

An email obtained by Variety from a resident to Los Angeles City Council read, "If this film shoot is allowed to go forward in Angelino Heights, or any part of it from F10 Productions (Universal)... we will stage a protest and will invite many reporters and news cameras to film us protesting this film shoot all day and night."

"We will hold this protest to honour the 178 people who have been killed by street racers in Los Angeles, and to shame Universal for their callous disregard for this deadly epidemic of street racing their films started and continue to promote."

According to some of the residences, the shoot itself is not as dire as the impact that the franchise has on the neighbourhood, stating that ever since the first movie came out back in 2001, the area has been flooded with street racers who wanted to emulate the characters of the movies, disrupting the lives of the residents and causing harm.

Some of these racers have also crashed onto cars and running away from the scene, leaving owners to deal with the consequences; while others threatening residents' lives when they ask them to leave.

"The fact that these people can find the actual spot and then just go torment the people living there is irresponsible," one resident said.

The planned protest is supported by Street Racing Kills and Streets Are for Everyone, two advocacy organisations that focus on road safety education.

Universal has made no comments regarding the protests.
