2 Nov - SS Rajamouli's "RRR" continues to make waves around the world as it was revealed that the film has made it big at the Japanese box office.

The film was released in Japan on 21 October in 209 screens and 31 IMAX releases across 44 cities and prefectures, enabling it to collect 73 million yen (approx. USD 495,000), making it the highest first week collections for an Indian movie in Japan.

It is noted that the highest grossing Indian film of all time in Japan is currently Rajinikanth's "Muthu", followed by Rajamouli's previous blockbuster, "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion", a fact that may play a part as to why "RRR" got such attention.

"Japanese audiences find that Indians films, especially 'RRR,' are completely different from the films they normally watch and it has tremendous energy, which makes them feel refreshed," said producer, Keizo Kabata.

Aside from the two Tamil movies, Aamir Khan's "3 Idiots" also made it big when it arrived in Japan in 2009.
