14 Jun – Taika Waititi has Star Wars fans excited with his involvement in the franchise's upcoming film, but according to the New Zealand filmmaker, he is still working on it.

Speaking to Screen Rant recently about his first "Star Wars" film, Waititi admitted that it is yet to be seen.

"I don't know. I'm still writing. I'm still coming up with the ideas and storylining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film," he said.

"Because, I could say, "Oh yeah, we'll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front." But it wouldn't be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment, so I've just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse."

Waititi is no stranger to the said franchise, having directed the finale of season 1 of the Disney+ series, "The Mandalorian".

According to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy earlier this month, the director's "Star Wars" film will be the first one to release after the conclusion of JJ Abrams's previous saga, with late 2023 as its tentative release date.

Meanwhile, Waititi is currently busy promoting the upcoming Marvel superhero movie, "Thor: Love and Thunder".
