14 Mar – Veteran actor William Hurt has recently passed away.

The news was confirmed by son Will, who released a statement that read, "It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes."


The younger Hurt also added that the family is requesting privacy at this time of mourning.

A four-time Oscar nominee (with three of them nominated consecutively in the Best Actor category), Hurt won his only Oscar Best Actor award in 1985 for "Kiss of the Spider Woman". He also won at BAFTA, Cannes, as well as other critics' awards for the said role.

He went on to make other films like "A.I Artificial Intelligence", "Syriana", "Into the Wild" and "Robin Hood".

However, the actor found a new fame among the younger generation in the late 2000s to 2010s, when he joined Marvel and played the role of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross five times including in 2016's "Captain America: Civil War", 2019's "Avengers: Endgame", as well as last year's "Black Widow".

His last screen appearance was in the 2022 film, "The King's Daughter" starring Pierce Brosnan and Kaya Scodelario.

He was 71.
