9 Feb – Malaysian-American screenwriter Adele Lim is making her directorial debut through Lionsgate's "Joy Ride".

The upcoming movie, which will be released on 23 June, stars "Emily in Paris" actress Ashley Park, "Everything Everywhere All At Once" star Stephanie Hsu, as well as Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu as unlikely friends who embark on an adventure after Park's character Audrey's business trip to Asia goes sideways.

Lim, who hailed from Petaling Jaya, is most known as the co-screenwriter of the hit movie, "Crazy Rich Asians", as well as "Raya and the Last Dragon". She walked away from writing the planned sequels to "Crazy Rich Asian" following a pay disparity controversy in 2019, whereupon it was revealed that she was offered 10% of what her white male co-screenwriter Peter Chiarelli would be earning.

Aside from directing "Joy Ride", Lim also produced the said movie that was written by Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao.

Said Lim, "[Three] years ago, [Cherry], [Theresa] and I set out to make a movie we wished we had when we were growing up. Now here we are! My directing debut and T&C's first produced feature screenplay - cannot wait to share our batshit movie and [great] cast with you!"

The upcoming movie co-stars Desmond Chiam, Alexander Hodge, as well as Chris Pang.

The movie also stars Stephanie Hsu of "Everything Everywhere All At Once" fame
