14 Dec – The controversial Amy Winehouse biopic "Back to Black" will be released in cinemas in May 2024. The news was confirmed by Focus Features.
Taking its title from the late singer's multiple Grammy-winning studio album, the movie is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson – best known for "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Nowhere Boy".
"Back to Black" stars Marisa Abela as the legendary singer-songwriter, who lived a tragic life before she died in 2011 at the age of 27. Co-stars include Jack O'Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville. In a previous report, the studio promised to provide a never-before-seen glimpse into Winehouse's early rise to fame prior to the release of her titular studio album. Fans of the singer previously expressed their anger over news of such biopic, stating that the entertainment industry had hurt her enough during her life. They also expressed skepticism when they saw the first look of Abela as Winehouse.
