9 Jan – Now that "Avatar: The Way of Water" has crossed USD 1.5 billion at the box office, James Cameron can finally be moving on to movie number 4 and 5.
The director said as much recently on the episode of HBO Max's "Who's Talking to Chris Wallave", saying that the film will easily pass their break even in the next few days.
"I'm sure that we'll have a discussion soon with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward for Avatar 3, which is already in the can – we've already captured and photographed the whole film so we're in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then Avatar 4 and 5 are both written. We even have some of 4 in the can. We've begun a franchise at this point. We've begun a saga that can now play out over multiple films."
It is noted that Cameron previously said that the movie will stop at three if "The Way of Water" could not break into the top ten list of the highest grossing movies of all time.
The film was estimated to cost USD 600 million in both production budget and marketing.
