17 Jul – James Cameron has slammed rumours that he is set to direct a movie based on the tragedy of the Titan submersible. The filmmaker, most known for his "Avatar" movies, took to Twitter to deny the reports, saying, "I don't respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now. I'm NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be."
It was back in June that OceanGate's submersible Titan, which was on its journey to the wreckage site of the Titanic, imploded, killing five including OceanGate CEO himself, Stockton Rush. Cameron previously made a statement regarding the tragedy, saying, "It's absolutely critical for people to get the take-home message that deep submersible diving is a mature art. The safety record is the gold standard, absolutely, not only fatalities but no accidents. ... Of course [what happened to the Titan is] the nightmare that we've all lived with, we've lived with it in the back of our minds."
