18 Apr – Director Jon M. Chu recently got fans excited by unveiling the first two photos from the upcoming movie adaptation of the musical, "Wicked". On 16 April, the filmmaker posted one photo of Cynthia Erivo in her Elphaba aka Wicked Witch of the West costume, complete with her broomstick, and wrote, "You weren't told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie ... currently in production in Oz." In another post, he wrote, "Green & Pink. It always starts with green and pink. #WickedMovie coming to you in 2024." The pink that he refers to is the costume worn by Ariana Grande, who plays the role of Glinda the Good.
However, fans can only see a small glimpse of the character, as it was a scene shot from afar of Glinda climbing the stairs. Ariana Grande herself commented on the photos with a simple, "I [love] you." Meanwhile, Erivo posted, "It's been wonderful making magic with you." The upcoming title, which is based on the 2003 musical by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, will be released in two parts, with the first part to be released on 27 November 2024 and the second part following a year later. The original musical had Idina Menzel of "Frozen" fame playing Elphaba, while "American Gods" star Kristin Chenoweth playing Glinda.
