20 Jun – It looks like another DC superhero is not doing well at the box office, as "The Flash" made a meagre opening debut of USD 55 million in the US. The movie, which was released on 16 June, fell short of expectations, and did not do so well either internationally, with USD 75 million from 78 markets - bringing its global tally to USD 130 million.
Many also believed that audiences were not interested in the project as it is among the remnants of the superhero movies from filmmaker Zack Snyder's aptly named "Snyderverse" which were planned prior to the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as DC Studios co-heads. It is noted that the two are already working on taking the franchise to a different direction. It is noted that Warner Bros. and DC still have several superhero movies from the old days that have yet to be released, namely "Blue Beetle" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom".
