22 Mar – If you think that "Downtown Abbey: A New Era" was the farewell film to the franchise, you might be wrong, as one of the cast members is now saying there will be another one. Imelda Staunton, who played Queen Mary's lady-in-waiting Lady Maud Bagshaw in the first two films, recently revealed to BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Zoe Ball that there will be a third film, which will be the actual final film. When Ball said that she hopes Staunton will not be in trouble for sharing that, she responded, "I don't care."
Staunton's comments came after it was rumoured that there will be a third film to be shot at Highclere Castle over the summer. The real castle was the location where the television series was filmed at for over six years. It is noted that "Downton Abbey", which started as a six-season TV series, spawned two movies, the 2019 titular film and 2022's "Downton Abbey: A New Era". The series, created by Julian Fellowes, first aired in 2010 and revolves around the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era.
