5 Dec - Debbie Nelson, the mother of rapper Marshall Mathers aka Eminem and the inspiration of a few of his songs, have passed away.

On 2 December, a rep for Eminem confirmed the news, saying that Nelson died from complications related to lung cancer, three months after her cancer diagnosis was made public.

Nelson, who married Eminem's father Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. at the age of 16, gave birth to the rapper when she was only 18. In her memoir, "My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem", she revealed that she was responsible of providing for her family during childhood as she grew up in a "large dysfunctional family".

Nelson and Eminem were also known to have a rocky relationship, with the former suing her own son for USD 11 million for his 2002 song, "Cleanin' Out My Closet".

However, the rapper released a song in 2013 titled "Headlights", which many speculated to be his way of apologising to Nelson and thanking her for single-handedly raising him.
