James Earl Jones passed away at 93

James Earl Jones gave voice to some of the greatest characters in cinema history

10 Sep - Veteran actor James Earl Jones, known for his deep baritone voice synonymous with Darth Vader and Mufasa, has recently passed away.

His rep confirmed that the actor breathed his last on the morning of 8 September at his home in Dutchess County, New York.

In a statement released by The Walt Disney Company, CEO Bob Oger said, "From the gentle wisdom of Mufasa to the menacing threat of Darth Vader, James Earl Jones gave voice to some of the greatest characters in cinema history. A celebrated stage actor with nearly 200 film and television credits to his name, the stories he brought to life with a uniquely commanding presence and a true richness of spirit have left an indelible mark on generations of audiences."

With a career spanning 60 plus years, Jones was known for movies like "A Piece of the Action" (1977), "Conan the Barbarian" (1982), "Coming to America" (1988), "The Hunt for Red October" (1990), "Patriot Games" (1992), and "Field of Dreams" (1998).

However, the EGOT winner (one of the few), was also known for his many voice-over work, from playing Darth Vader in "Star Wars" movie, Mufasa in "The Lion King", and video games like "Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun" and "Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon".

He also narrated a lot of documentaries including "Malcolm X" and "Earth".

He was 93.
