30 Dec - Jay-Z's dream of getting himself out of being associated with Diddy is not coming true, as a judge has now denied his legal team's efforts to dismiss a lawsuit accusing him and the rapper of rape.

The singer, real name Shawn Carter, was named in a lawsuit filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, where it claimed that he and Diddy sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl, identified as Jane Doe, more than two decades ago following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Jay-Z, who denied the allegations, also sought to dismiss the case after the woman acknowledged inconsistencies in her allegations in an NBC News report published earlier this month.

On 26 December, Judge Analisa Torres chastised Jay-Z's lawyer Alex Spiro, saying, "Carter's lawyer's relentless filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks is inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client. The Court will not fast-track the judicial process merely because counsel demands it."

Judge Torres also said that the Jane Doe accuser could proceed anonymously at this early stage but that she may be required to reveal her identity at a later date.

Meanwhile, Jane Doe's representative Tony Buzbee stated of the ruling, "I will say that the coordinated and desperate efforts to attack me as counsel for alleged victims are falling flat."
