15 Jul - Just as the fourth "Despicable Me" movie began screening worldwide, Illumination and Universal revealed that a third "Minions" movie is now in the works.

The two studios shared the news just as "Despicable Me 4" generated USD 229.5 million worldwide in its weekend opening, revealing that the upcoming third film of the spinoff will be directed by frequent collaborator Pierre Coffin, who also voiced the characters since 2010.

"Despicable Me 4" is now in theatres

The upcoming film, which will be produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan, who previously executive produced "The Super Mario Bros. Movie", will be released on 30 June 2027.

It is noted that the last "Minions" movie, "Minions: The Rise of Gru" was a box office hit in 2022, earning USD 940.7 million.
