10 June - It's grand being author Suzanne Collins, who found that her yet-to-be-released "Hunger Games" prequel has been snatched by Hollywood.

Lionsgate announced last week that it has acquired Collins' novel, "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping" for a movie adaptation, despite the book itself will only be releasing in March next year.

Francis Lawrence is in talks to direct the adaptation, after already helming all four previous adaptations, as well as last year's prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" starring Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth.

The "Sunrise on the Reaping" movie already has a release date
No news as to who will play the leads in the movie, but Lionsgate has already announced its release schedule to be 20 November 2026.

Set in the Hunger Games universe, "Sunrise on the Reaping" is set 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, and timed for the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

Bookreaders will automatically remember that it is the same game where Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson), who mentored Katniss Everdeen in the original "Hunger Games" books, was declared the victor.

Said Lionsgate's Adam Fogelson, "The Second Quarter Quell is legendary and looms large over the history of the Games, even into the time of Katniss Everdeen a quarter-century later. Like fans around the globe, we are eagerly anticipating this exciting return to Panem."
