9 Sep - Nicole Kidman was unable to accept her Best Actress win at the Venice Film Festival in person after having to return home early following her mother's passing.

The actress released the statement following her early return from promoting new movie, "Babygirl" at the festival, which director Halina Reijn read while accepting the award on behalf of Kidman.

"I'm in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her," the speech read, referring to Kidman's mother, Janelle Ann Kidman. "She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina. The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken."

Meanwhile, Kidman's rep has also released a short statement, saying, "The family is heartbroken and asks for privacy at this time."

Kidman, who had a great relationship with her mother, once told THR that Janelle had always been the most supportive of her acting career.

"Mum didn't necessarily get the career that she wanted, but she was determined that her daughters would have opportunities that were equal. That's given me my life. And she gave me my life, she and my dad," she expressed.
