6 Nov - "Back to the Future" director and co-creator Robert Zemeckis recently stressed that he is not remaking or helming a sequel to the hit '80s franchise.

The filmmaker, who was asked about the Michael J. Fox-starrers that he and Bob Gale created when he appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast recently, stated, "You know, we have to say, 'There are different things that might work.' Something like that, you know? But to remake the movie or to suggest that there's a Back to the Future 4, it just isn't in the cards."

However, Zemeckis admitted that Universal often asks him if he was open to revisiting the franchise.

"I would like to do Back to the Future: The Musical," he said. "Just like [Mel Brooks] did with The Producers. I would love to do that. I think that would be great."

However, the filmmaker lightheartedly added that the studio didn't understand the musical idea.

The first "Back to the Future" film was released in 1985, followed by the sequel four years later. Meanwhile, the third instalment came out in 1990, and spawn an animated series that ran for two seasons in the early '90s.
